Coming Soon!

Well, the new logo for Sasquatch Watch of Virginia has been selected.  The artwork designers are currently putting the finishing touches on it.  I personally have longed for a permanent logo for the group and am very excited with the logo that was chosen.

The designers have told me that the logo should be complete and ready to publish within a couple of days.  Once we have the final product, our Sasquatch Watch of Virginia Cafe Press Store will be updated with the new logo so it will be available on our merchandise.

I want to personally thank all of the official members of the group who jumped in and helped me make this decision quickly.  All of your input was greatly appreciated and everyone had great ideas!  Sasquatch Watch of Virginia would not be the group it is today without each and everyone of you!  THANK YOU!!!

New Logo Coming Soon!

For years, Sasquatch Watch of Virginia has been trying to find that "trademark logo" for the group.  We have went through a few different designs but have never been completely satisfied.

As of last week, Sasquatch Watch of Virginia has hired a professional artwork company to redesign a brand new logo for the group.  We are very excited about it and are currently being sent design ideas for our official research members and investigators to vote on.

Within the coming week or so, the newly designed logo will become the official logo for the group.

We will post the new logo up for everyone to see once a decision is made. Thanks so much to everyone who have supported us through the years.  The best is still to come!

Creature Weekend 2012

Some would like you to believe that the 2012 Creature Weekend in Salt Fork State Park in Ohio wasn't a success, especially a certain blog which will not be mentioned on this blog.  The blog even mentions whether or not the event can endure.  WELL, IT CAN!  There will be a Creature Weekend 2013 next May 2013 at Salt Fork!

The one thing I find so amusing from certain blogs are how they always ASSUME that money is the reason for a conference.  They are not capable of realizing that sometimes a conference is put on just for the pure enjoyment of doing it.  Why?  Because they are in the business of writing a blog to complain and whimper...PLAIN AND SIMPLE!  Yes, some of us actually ENJOY being at a conference to simply catch up with one another and to enjoy each others company.  I know that's hard for some to understand, you first have to have friends to understand that.

This unnamed blog even goes on to add that the conference stunk.  Funny thing is, every person I spoke to told me how the conference was a breath of fresh air.  They liked the new layout, they liked the different activities and they liked the fact that there wasn't TOO MANY speakers.  No one want's to sit in a conference and listen to speakers all day long.  You have to mix it up a little and that is exactly what the organizer did!

It has been said that the place looked empty.  I have been to many past conferences at Salt Fork and most of the time people were out wandering outside the conference room in the hallway.  In the case of Creature Weekend, people were glued to the speakers presentations in the conference room, that's where everyone was instead of wandering the halls.

The unnamed blog says the organizer must admit to failure.  THERE WAS NO FAILURE!  Creature Weekend 2012 was a huge success!

Now let's discuss something really funny in my opinion.  The unnamed blog says that the only problem they had was the question of why there was a secrecy about the organizer of the event when it was being run by known personalities.  Now, this is the same folks that won't tell you who they are and yet they write a blog criticizing others.  In addition, they won't even allow folks to respond to their false accusations.  On top of that, the folks commenting (which I believe are the same folks that write the blog because they like to talk to themselves) use fake names, and boy to they come up with some good ones!  Well, here is a NEWSFLASH (because I know they are reading this).  If you really felt the need to find out who was organizing the event, why not pick up the telephone (you know, that thing with the numbered buttons on it and you can hear people on the other end talking back to you) and ask the Salt Fork Lodge who is putting on the event.  Guess what?  They would tell you.  But...it's ok, I know that requires too much work and research so I apologize. LOL!!!

Anyway, sorry for the rant.  I needed to have a little fun today.

In all seriousness, we would like to thank everyone for attending the 2012 Creature Weekend!  Special thanks go out to the organizer, all the volunteers and all those in attendance that made it successful!  Also, a big thank you to Lee Murphy and Sali Sheppard-Wolford who both provided autographed copies of their books for the conference!  That was GREATLY appreciated!

We look forward to another successful Creature Weekend in 2013!  Stay tuned to this blog for future announcements of events!

Mini-Expedition May 11-13, 2012

On May 11-13, 2012, Sasquatch Watch of Virginia had a small, weekend expedition on some private property located near Central Virginia.  A small group of folks from the group spent an enjoyable time in the field doing what we enjoy, research and association with one another.

During the daytime, investigators broke up into two groups to check out different areas of the property.  The footprint seen on the left was found by Gary, one of our newest investigators.  This footprint was found in an area that surrounds a large swamp on higher ground.  The other group had found strange stick formations in the woods, some were ruled out as weather related, some were wrote up as unknown.

One things for sure, this year there seems to be a lot of snakes.  This black snake was found not far from the area of the footprint that was found by Gary.  This was the second snake to be seen during the weekend.  The first snake was found by Brandon on another part of the property as seen in the photo below.
Just so everyone knows, these expeditions are not just all about the research.  We all enjoy getting together to associate and just have a good time.  After all, isn't that what life's about?  These expeditions help everyone to get to know each other better.  Call me a simple person, but the best part of the expeditions are having my loving, beautiful wife sitting right next to me and sitting down around the campfire and sharing stories.  Do we have to be serious all the time?  Of course not!  But, it's usually times like this when most sightings occur.

Late one evening, a group of us went out walking the trails at night.  One of the researchers, Tom, was listening through his parabolic and heard several sounds in the woods.  Most could be passed off as regular wildlife.  But there were a few instances where he heard what sounded like bipedal footsteps.  As Tom was listening close on one of those occasions, Gary heard what sounded like a whistle coming from the opposite side of the trail from the sounds being heard.  I was scanning the woods with a Flir Thermal Imager.  When I directed the Flir to the direction of the whistle, the images to the left are what we saw.

Both Gary and myself watched this thermal image (yellow near the center of the screen) sway back and forth from behind a tree.  What is it?  We don't know.  One of the first things I noticed after uploading the image is the temperature range on the Flir.  The highest temperature on the screen is 55 degrees F.  In my opinion, if the image was a living, breathing animal; the temperature should be much higher.  Probably more like in the 90 degrees+ range.  So, what are we seeing here?  I simply do not know.  All we know is that the figure was swaying back and forth from behind a tree.  We know that Gary heard a whistle from this direction.  And we know it wasn't stationary, because when we had Brandon toss a rock into the general direction, this image went away.

On the last day, as I was collecting the trail cameras, I ran across this tree break.  I did not notice this tree break the day before when I installed the trail cameras.  So as always, we end up with more questions than answers.

Some strange lights were seen in the sky late one evening as well.  Again, more questions than answers.

But, we keep on going!  I know I'm not much of a writer folks, but I try.  Hope you enjoy the blog.  There will be more to come soon!

Time to Wake Up This Blog!

I think its long overdue for Sasquatch Watch of Virginia to wake up this blog!  We will start posting news articles about our hairy friends, news about certain aspects of research and may occasionally respond to certain other blogs since some blogs like to censor certain folks from responding to their non-factual information.  So, stay tuned!  Oh, and by the way, we will soon have an announcement as Sasquatch Watch of Virginia is preparing for a little expansion.  More to come soon!
